A caution for my most benevolent leader,
We have delved into dark lands where devils the likes of which we have never seen before wander. We are uncertain if we are awake or sleeping as we witness the horrors they unleash on innocent children, tricking them into evil through their ignorance and innocence.
We should stay clear of this land once we have from it what we seek.

As the scales of the Kobold rippled, his muscles preparing to move forward a sudden clamoring rang through the streets. The second thunder was clearer, a bell, no a gong, was sounding an alarm over and over. Moments later men run down the streets, the chain links of their long vests ringing in unison.
The woman and her child huddled to the side, but they crashed through them, sending their meager meal into the mud where the second rank trampled it into the ground.
The Kobold hissed, and slipped away into the darkness. Seeking a path away from the main corridor for the guard at arm’s response.
Meanwhile, across the slave camp, a small boy pulled himself up so that his head could just see over the wall.
“Hurry” his mother yelled as quietly as she could.
“Mommy, I don’t want to go alone” the young boy, not even old enough for the fields cried to her.
“I’ll be right behind you” she tried to gently coax him over the wall, giving him a last lift. He cleared the wall and swung his leg over the other side just as the first crossbow bolt hit him squarely in the chest.
“Get them!” the sergeant of the guard shouted. The men rushed forward shooting another hail of crossbows. This volley brought the woman to her knees, crying for her son as he toppled over the other side.
The Kobold slipped through the alleyways, as guards trampled through a neighboring street he backed into a little covered shed and bumped into a sleeping old man. With a startled cry for help the man awoke. He raced through the alleys, but there were too many of them looking and soon he found himself trapped, spotted by the guard they cornered him and closed in from all sides. He at last drew something from his leather jacket…
